The Ferrari BB 512 V12

The Ferrari BB 512, unveiled at the Turin Motor Show in 1971, was a true pioneer for Ferrari. As the marque's first model to adopt a rear-mounted twelve-cylinder engine, it embodied a Formula 1 car designed for the road.

The name BB stands for Berlinetta Boxer. The figure 512 refers to its 5-litre V12 engine. The BB 512 benefits from a dry sump, a technology from racing that optimises lubrication during intensive use and lowers the centre of gravity. Its power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Signed Pininfarina, its design combines elegance and aggression, with a low, taut silhouette, typical of the grand tourers of the 1970s. At the time, it was in direct competition with the Lamborghini Countach, while retaining Ferrari's own soul: more refined, more balanced, but just as exclusive. A true Ferrari, it offers an exhilarating driving experience, rich in unique sensations and boasting impressive performance.

Production of the BB 512 ended in 1981 after 929 units had been manufactured. It was then replaced in the same year by the Ferrari 512 BB i, which benefited from fuel injection, thus replacing the four triple-barrel carburettors of the 512 BB.
