The Ferrari 488 Spider V8

The Ferrari 488 Spider retains the iconic architecture of the 488 GTB: a V8 engine positioned centrally behind the driver, rear-wheel drive, and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Its F154 block, a 3,902 cm³ twin-turbocharged 90° V8, delivers an impressive 670 hp at 8,000 rpm. Maximum torque reaches 760 Nm, a remarkable figure for a road-going V8 Ferrari of this generation.

The 488 designation refers to the approximate individual displacement of each cylinder, harking back to a technical nomenclature method previously used by Ferrari. However, for the majority of enthusiasts, the number 488 symbolises, above all, the adoption of turbocharging. Whereas the 458 Spider was distinguished by its naturally aspirated power, the 488 Spider offers more concentrated and immediate power, with increased availability from lower revs and significantly superior mid-range acceleration.

Ferrari has designed this engine to eliminate the effect of inertia, which is often a source of frustration in some turbocharged sports cars. The throttle response, turbo management, and gearbox calibration ensure the 488 Spider offers a precise and immediate mechanical feel. Rather than imitating the 458, it offers a new approach to performance: more explosive, more efficient, while remaining expressive enough to fully embody the Ferrari spirit.

The retractable hardtop is a key feature of this model. It opens or closes in just 14 seconds, while maintaining a harmonious silhouette when closed. When open, it offers a unique experience without transforming the car into a classic grand tourer convertible. Furthermore, the modular rear window adds an extra touch by allowing for better appreciation of the V8's sound, even when the roof is closed.

The performance is exceptional: 0 to 100 km/h in around 3 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 8.7 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 325 km/h. These figures illustrate part of its effectiveness, but do not tell its whole story. The 488 Spider stands out above all for its ability to combine blistering acceleration, remarkable chassis precision, optimal traction, and surprising ease of use. Not forgetting, of course, its incomparable elegance.

Our splendid example, in an exceptionally elegant and rare combination, displays a mileage of only 18,927.
