The Ieteren Porsche 356 Bt5 Roadster

Historically, the Porsche 356 was the first sports car manufactured and marketed by Porsche. Designed by Ferry Porsche using Volkswagen's mechanical underpinnings and styled by Erwin Komenda, it would be mass-produced from 1948 to 1965. Technically, it is a unibody with four-wheel independent suspension and a rear-mounted flat-four engine.

Originally the 356 was available as a coupé and cabriolet, and then at Hoffmann's request, a Speedster version was created in 1954. For the 1960 model year, Porsche modernised its 356 with the introduction of the 356 B model, like the one presented here. Taking over from the legendary Speedster, the Roadster adopted the same formula with the advantages of the 1600 cm³ engine in its S configuration. Among the various coachbuilders who manufactured the Roadster, D’Ieteren is the rarest. Indeed, out of the 2900 356 Roadsters built, only 473 were made by D’Ieteren frères in Belgium.
