The Ferrari 550 Maranello V12

Designed by Pininfarina, the 550 Maranello marks Ferrari's return to the front-mounted V12 engine, following in the grand lineage of the Ferrari 250 and 275, an architecture abandoned after the Ferrari Daytona.

The Ferrari 550 Maranello was unveiled in July 1996 at the German Nürburgring circuit. The F1 team drivers of the time, Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine, were at the wheel, as were many drivers including former world champion Niki Lauda. 

In the 27 November 1996 issue of the British magazine «Autocar» are the results of a road test, quoting a 0-100km/h time of 4.6 seconds, and a 0-100mph time of 10.1 seconds, and top speed of 320km/h. The car took first place in that same magazine’s «Britain’s Best Driver’s Car 1998», which stated in 1999 that it« remains the best GT on the market ». 

In 2004, British magazine Evo, after a comparison with other prestige models, considered the 550 Maranello to be « The best sports car of the decade 1994-2004 ».

The 550 Maranello is the last V12 Ferrari to be equipped with the legendary manual gearbox as standard and without electronic aids. 

She is considered «the ultimate very great Ferrari to collect».
